Katrin Engler arranging flowers

Flowers are visual music. They awaken the senses.

Studio with spring flowers | Katrin Engler

I live and work in Leipzig, photographing flowers in my studio. My process often begins long before the image is taken - starting with sowing seeds or planting young blooms. I accompany their development over time, from the first signs of growth to their final fading. My work, therefore, follows the rhythm of the gardening year: from the first spring flowers to autumnal dahlias and dried stems.

In my photographic practice, I navigate between precise observation and deliberate composition. I grant the flowers space and attention, focusing on their form, structure, and details. I employ colour and light with intent - often using soft, natural light to lend the petals an almost tactile texture. Imperfections - a nibbled leaf, a drooping head, or a withered bloom - are consciously embraced as compositional elements.

My work is created digitally and positioned as contemporary fine-art photography. I view flowers not merely as decorative motifs, but as autonomous subjects with a rich range of expression. Through my images, I aim to capture the beauty of the moment - a quiet appreciation of imperfection that serves as a love letter to the garden.

I would love to work with you.
